One of the most popular excursion destinations for the inhabitants of Nový Jičín is the Čert'ák reservoir. This body of water was created on the Kojetínský brook and serves mainly for recreation and sport fishing. However, a number of protected animals and plants also live here. Surrounded by a picturesque romantic landscape, Čerťák is also visited by locals thanks to the local hospitality and the particularly popular tvarůžky.
Ignác Riedel of Bludovice founded a small water mill in this remote location in the early 19th century, later known as the Devil's Mill. According to legend, it was long plagued by the presence of hell. It was only once that a retired soldier managed to drive the devil out of the mill by tying him up and chaining him to a rotating mill wheel. The infernalist promised never to appear in the mill again and when the cock crowed, the devil disappeared. From then on, no devil entered the mill. The brave soldier who rid the mill of the infernalists received the building as a gift from the authorities. The mill later disappeared, but the local tavern remained and is still owned by the descendants of the Pater family.
